A label & criteria for sustainable cloud infrastructure

Choosing a cloud provider today is mostly driven by technical or economical considerations. Many of the larger providers differentiate themselves with the services they offer, a competitive advantage which many regional and small operators are struggling to keep up with. These regional actors, however, often innovate in the infrastructure - using refurbished servers or innovative cooling approaches.

Differentiating cloud infrastructure & service providers based on their environmental sustainability and potentially social-impact is not possible today from the perspective of a developer or IT decision maker.

In this steering group, we are developing a certification for cloud operators - small or large - who are taking measures to be environmentally and socially sustainable in order to enable them to differentiate themselves in the market.
