Strategies for making hydrogen-based power generation a viable alternative

With the advent of the Green Deal, the EU Fit for 55 and the Biden Administration, Hydrogen is becoming the magic bullet for decarbonizing a significant part of industry & transport. Within digital infrastructure, both on-site generation as well as backup-generation are technically viable. However, the investment for the operator remains significantly higher than traditional diesel or battery-based backup systems. Further, the distribution and storage of hydrogen gas remain a challenge.

A viable strategy for digital infrastructure assets can be to turn them into regional energy hubs, generating hydrogen on-site and becoming a supplier to other industries, such as heavy transport.

In this steering group, we look at the business case of viable hydrogen system configurations, develop energy hub strategies and collaborate with regional governments to create pilot environments.
