Hamburg, Germany, 28 January 2022 – The Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA) today announces a new partnership with Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI), a globally recognized thought leader and proactive driver of the information and communications technology (ICT) sustainability agenda.
GeSI’s partnership with SDIA affirms a joint commitment to realizing a sustainable digital economy in accordance with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda, European Green Deal strategies, Paris Climate Agreement commitments, and other relevant frameworks.
As such, the two organizations will work together within the framework established by SDIA’s Roadmap to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure by 2030 and GeSI’s Digital With Purpose (DWP) Movement in a way that will help advance the organizational missions of both parties and realize their sustainability focused activities and objectives, including the Circular Electronics Partnership (CEP).
“Partnering with like-minded organizations like SDIA is crucial to accelerate this transition to a digital economy across all sectors. At GeSI, we are thrilled to work alongside SDIA, and we look forward to collaborating on building a society driven by digital and sustainable solutions,” said Luis Neves, GeSI’s CEO.
SDIA’s Founder, Max Schulze, welcomes GeSi to the Alliance, emphasizing the importance of the organization’s expertise in developing sustainable digital infrastructure. “We are proud to partner with GeSI to work together across our diverse and complementary networks to help realize our shared goal: a more sustainable ICT ecosystem,” he stressed.
In collaboration with members from major ICT companies and organizations around the globe, GeSI facilitates real-world solutions to real-world challenges within the ICT industry and the greater sustainability community.
With the growing data center sector calling for a standardized approach and transparent reporting to enable relevant carbon footprint data that can drive sustainable digital infrastructure, the partnership between GeSI and SDIA will play a crucial role in advancing innovative opportunities for low-carbon technology in cloud solutions. Moreover, the ICT sector will have the responsibility of facilitating the green digital transition for all industries.
“GeSI’s DWP Movement was born out of the realization that our society and planet is not on track to heal itself anytime soon,” Neves highlighted, adding: “And while GeSI is excited by the transformational effect new technologies will have, it is imperative for the ICT sector to take a leadership role by raising the ambition levels and working to connect all parts of society to achieve more, quickly.”
GeSi’s partnership with the SDIA is an important step in driving collaboration across sectors and enabling business transformation.
Established in 2019, SDIA is a nonprofit network of more than 65 organizations working to catalyze the transition to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure. The Alliance gathers all actors of the digital ecosystem on the mission of addressing greenhouse gas emissions, resource consumption, pollution, and other key metrics across the global digital economy.
Its aim is to build a European platform that creates tangible benefits for its members and partners, enabling every industrial actor to connect, benchmark, and deliver sustainability within their segment of the digital infrastructure value chain in a way that promotes communities, financial viability, and planetary well-being.
