Amersfoort, Netherlands, February 2022 - Royal HaskoningDHV, an independent consultancy that integrates 140 years of engineering expertise with digital technologies and software solutions has joined forces with the Sustainable Digital Infrastructure Alliance (SDIA), becoming its latest member.
With offices across 30 countries and more than 6,000 employees, Royal HaskoningDHV has been driving positive change through innovation and technology, helping their clients use resources more efficiently and creating solutions which connect with people and make their lives happier, easier, and safer.
“Our sustainable solutions for greenfield and brownfield sites include energy-efficient design, waste heat exchange and energy storage, the reuse of existing buildings, smaller footprints through high-rise development, reduced water usage, and more. With Royal HaskoningDHV clients can rely on experience and practical solutions to incorporate sustainability in their data centers.” the company said in a statement.
Daan Terpstra, SDIA Executive Chairman, welcomes Royal HaskoningDHV to the Alliance. “Royal HaskoningDHV’s expertise in developing sustainable digital infrastructure is of great importance for the SDIA. Together we will work and develop new concepts and technologies by utilizing sustainable development and innovation.” Terpstra pointed out.
According to Royal HaskoningDHV, the global digital revolution is bringing prosperity to more and more countries and regions, with digital infrastructures creating new economic opportunities. Data centers facilitate this 21st-century transformation benefiting millions of people in their daily lives, the Dutch company noted.
Over the years, Royal HaskoningDHV has been involved in the emergence and development of data centers and other mission critical facilities from the pioneer phase.
“We see that society increasingly demands reliable systems and that continuity is crucial for the functioning of our society. Data centers require highly resilient infrastructure to ensure service. We, therefore, deliver resilient and energy-efficient data centers to enable business, operations and systems to operate efficiently, effectively and continuously.” the company said.
For Royal HaskoningDHV, data centers are an essential feature of modern life. They support the digital technologies that ensure society runs effectively and efficiently without disruption.
“They provide the capability to address, through innovation, some of the world’s biggest challenges. At the same time, they are part of the challenge. They need to adapt and innovate so the sector continues to support and develop a vibrant digital economy which is open and accessible, without consuming unsustainable levels of resources.” the company said, explaining why they are joining forces with the SDIA.
“The scale of the challenge is such that it can only be addressed by combining our expertise with that of our clients, partners, and customers. That is the reason why we became a member of the Alliance. In a co-creative approach, we can scale impact far beyond stand-alone projects in order to Enhance Society Together (our mission). We fully support the beliefs of the Alliance to adapt the underlying digital infrastructure, reducing its environmental impact to zero, making the massive growth sustainable while ensuring it remains open & accessible.” Royal HaskoningDHV points out.
The SDIA, established in 2019, is a nonprofit network of more than 60 organizations working to catalyze the transition to sustainable digital infrastructure. The Alliance connects all actors of the digital ecosystem – from industry to governments to suppliers to consumers – on the mission of decarbonizing the global digital economy and realizing their Roadmap to Sustainable Digital Infrastructure by 2030.
Royal HaskoningDHV will now also aid the SDIA in this mission, as it is continually innovating to enable data centers to run more effectively and efficiently, with increasing reliability while using less water and energy.
“We are mindful of the wider environment, optimizing space, ensuring architecture is appropriate and embracing synergies such as heat exchange with local homes and businesses. Using multi-criteria methods, including parametric design, we are testing concepts before implementation to see their impact on reducing energy, water, materials, investment and operational costs, as well as the extent to which they meet circular economy principles.” Royal HaskoningDHV concludes.
